Today we are celebrating the most auspicious occasion of the appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. In one of the lectures, our beloved Guru Maharaj was referring to the following beautiful verse from Caitanya Caritamrta Adi lila 2.2:
krishnotkirtana-gaana-nartana-kalaa-paathojani-bhraajitaa
sad-bhaktaavali-hamsa-cakra-madhupa-shreni -vihaaraaspadam
karnaanandi-kala-dhvanir vahatu me jihvaa-maru-praangane
shri-caitanya dayaa-nidhe tava lasal-lila-sudhaa-svardhuni
"O my merciful Lord Caitanya, may the nectarean Ganges waters of Your transcendental activities flow on the surface of my desertlike tongue. Beautifying these waters are the lotus flowers of singing, dancing and loud chanting of Krishna’s holy name, which are the pleasure abodes of unalloyed devotees. These devotees are compared to swans, ducks and bees. The river’s flowing produces a melodious sound that gladdens their ears."

The Lord states in the Gita that He accepts a leaf, flower, fruit or water from His bhaktas if it is offered with devotion. These items are easily available and by offering these things one can get His blessings to enter into His Kingdom. And from the scriptures we hear that the Lord has great liking for Tulasi leaves and He is very much pleased if we offer tulasi leaves to Him.

Every morning, a different devotee comes up to Paradisio to visit Swamiji for a day. Although there is no formal initiation ritual or fire sacrifice, Swamiji chants on the initiates’ beads and bestows spiritual names: Aniruddha, Uddhava, Murari, Devananda.

"Even if one distributes ten million cows in charity during an eclipse of the sun, lives at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna for millions of years, or gives a mountain of gold in sacrifice to the brahmanas, he does not earn even one hundredth part of the merit derived from chanting Hare Krishna."
Srila Sanatana Gosvami – Laghu Bhagavatamrta

This mail is in continuation of the transcription of Maharaj’s lecture on Bhagavad Gita verse 5.6.

Merely renouncing all activities yet not engaging in the devotional service of the Lord cannot make one happy. But a thoughtful person engaged in devotional service can achieve the Supreme without delay.

"If one only chants, with some slight faith, the holy names of Lord Caitanya and Nityananda, very quickly he is cleansed of all offenses. Thus as soon as he chants the Hare Krsna maha-mantra, he feels the ecstasy of love for God."

We recently had the Vyasa puja celebrations on 2nd December 2009 wherein everyone was chanting the Lord’s names all round the day with sincere feeling. Especially considering Gurudev’s health, almost everyone was emotional in feeling for our Gurudev. Whoever comes in touch with our Gurudev has to love him. It is inevitable. Because our Gurudev’s nature is to give genuine love for all of us without any expectation. Till date he has not expected anything from us and the only request he has made to us is to chant the 16 rounds of mahamantra with sincerity. In fact he is pleading to us all the time rather than giving instructions. The 16 rounds also after accomplishing our official duties and duty towards the family. Who can be more practical than this? He never sees us as his disciples but he sees us as his sons and daughters. Love in the material world is perverted as lust. The definition of love means unconditional service to another living entity without any expectation – just like mother does service to her children without any expectation. This mood of Gurudev is this unique spiritual quality which is very much loved by Lord Sri Krishna in the pages of Srimad Bhagavatam, that He says, "I purify Myself with the dust of the lotus feet of such pure devotees".
