March 10, 1975 – Prabhupada’s Quote Of The Day

PrabhupadIn this age, Kali-yuga, to kill the demons means to stop their demonic activities by the weapon of kirtana, hari-sankirtana, which is spread by Lord Chaitanya’s associates.

February 16, 1977 – Prabhupada’s Quote Of The Day

PrabhupadIn India the practice was hand grind daily. The women will do that. That’s exercise for them, and they keep their body fit and beautiful. In the morning they chant Hare Krishna and grind. Whatever they require for the day, they grind fresh. And actually, by this exercise, they keep their body beautiful. Yasodamayi was doing that, even she is the queen of Nanda Maharaja, what to speak of 0ther women. Churning milk, grinding the wheat, this their household. Full engagement. Otherwise gossiping….Idle brain, devil’s workshop.

We saw in the mail "Detachment in Practice" that Parikshit maharaj exhibited the highest quality of renunciation of his kingdom, wealth and everything. In fact, few verses before he graciously accepts the curse of the brahmana as the mercy of the Lord and accepts it without any retaliation. Our nature is that any reverse to our sense gratification we tend to rebel against it and the whole life is wasted on the rebellious plot. This needs to be avoided. As Maharaj says, "A devotee welcomes any situation as long as he is in this material world because his attention is fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord." Since our attention is not fixed we tend to waver and glide down from devotional service and we don’t even realize it. Whereas Parikshit Maharaj was able to accept the curse because his attention is fixed and his objectives are very clear. How was his attention fixed and objectives were clear will be seen from the same verse we discussed yesterday.

February 7, 1975 – Prabhupada’s Quote Of The Day

PrabhupadSpiritual anxiety means you are advancing in spiritual life, and material anxiety means you are going downhill. Maya is so strong that as soon as I am sitting in a solitary place, then I’ll think of money and women. Therefore we should live always in the assembly of devotees and chant Hare Krishna and save ourself from the danger of material falldown.

"Let me please Your Lordship by chanting the bija-mantra omkara. I wish to offer my respectful obeisances unto the personality of Godhead, who is the best among the most highly elevated personalities. Your Lordship is the reservoir of all the good qualities of Aryans, people who are advanced. Your character and behavior are always consistent, and you exhibit exemplary character to teach others how to behave. There is a touchstone that can be used to examine the gold, but you are like a touchstone that can verify all good qualities. You are worshipped by brahmanas who are the foremost of all devotees. You, the Supreme Person, are the King of Kings, and therefore I offer my respectful obeisances unto You."

Remembering Srila Prabhupada – Lord Nrsinghadeva

Prabhupada

Every morning, a different devotee comes up to Paradisio to visit Swamiji for a day. Although there is no formal initiation ritual or fire sacrifice, Swamiji chants on the initiates’ beads and bestows spiritual names: Aniruddha, Uddhava, Murari, Devananda.

Jan 15, 2010 – Vedic Thought

"For a person devoid of devotional service, birth in a great family or nation, knowledge of the revealed scripture, performance of austerities and penance, and chanting of Vedic mantras are all like ornaments on a dead body. Such ornaments simply serve the concocted pleasures of the general populace."

Hari-bhakti-sudhodaya 3.12

Prabhupada

February 27. We drive down to Palo Alto for an engagement in the student lounge of Stanford University. Swamiji sits on one of the lounge’s coffee tables and starts leading the kirtan, chanting into a microphone. At first, only twenty students are present, but as we chant and dance, more congregate.

January 10, 1971 – Prabhupada’s Quote Of The Day

PrabhupadThe powerful hari-nama is so strong that even if one unconsciously or consciously they imitate: Hare Krishna. They have no intention to chant the holy name of Krishna, but they imitate or criticize, Hare Krishna. That also has effect.

The devotees in this forum might be aware of the health condition of our beloved Guru Maharaj. Defying all our mental concoctions, Maharaj proved his transcendence yet another time, when he traveled to Panvel in Mumbai, which is about 2 hours drive, on Sunday 3rd January 2010.

January 4, 1973 – Prabhupada’s Quote Of The Day

PrabhupadWhen one becomes Krishna conscious, he loves everyone. If you chant loudly Hare Krishna, even the ants and insect who is hearing, he’ll be delivered, because it is spiritual vibration.

virat-rupa – Remembering Srila Prabhupada

Prabhupada

Although I’ve been chanting since July, the cosmos has not unfolded psychedelically before me, as I had hoped. What am I doing wrong? Why haven’t I seen that apocalyptic vision witnessed by Arjuna on the Battlefield of Kurukshetra? Where is that virat-rupa, the Universal Form containing myriad eyes, hands, heads, and flaming mouths devouring worlds?

In the last few days Maharaj has not been doing well physically and was going through critical hours on 24, 26 and 27(especially) dec. The oxygen saturation is still affecting Maharaj but being transcendental he does not bother about it much at all. In the recent incident on 24th dec Maharaj’s breathlessness was very severe in the afternoon and he conceded after repeated plea from devotees, for visit of doctor. The doctor advised that he should be admitted to hospital immediately. Again the devotees pleaded and Maharaj conceded to go to hospital after some time. In the hospital Maharaj was given injection and he got some relief. As soon as he recovered in the evening, Maharaj gave class for 25 minutes on BG 5.26 to devotees and doctor in the hospital. The doctor got bewildered by this action and asked Maharaj, "Are you the same person in the afternoon who was suffering from breathlessness?!!". Maharaj is revealing to us his transcendental position even though we neither deserve it nor understand it.

December 29, 2009 – Vedic Thought

"Even if one distributes ten million cows in charity during an eclipse of the sun, lives at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna for millions of years, or gives a mountain of gold in sacrifice to the brahmanas, he does not earn even one hundredth part of the merit derived from chanting Hare Krishna."

Merely renouncing all activities yet not engaging in the devotional service of the Lord cannot make one happy. But a thoughtful person engaged in devotional service can achieve the Supreme without delay.
