Vijaya Ekadasi – Tuesday, 9 Feb 2010

Yudhisthira Maharaj said, “Oh Lord Sri Krishna, O glorious son of Vasudeva, please be merciful to me and describe the EkAdasii that occurs during the dark fortnight of the month of PhAlguna (February-March)"

Lord Sri Krishna replied, “Oh Yudhisthira, Oh king of kings, gladly I shall tell you about this great fast, known as VijayA EkAdasii. Whoever observes it certainly achieves success in this life and the next. All the sins of one who fasts on this EkAdasii and hears its sublime glories are eradicated.

Jan 14, 2010 – Vedic Thought

Sat-tila Ekadasi – Sunday, 10 Jan 2010

Sri Daalbhya Rishi said to Palastya Muni, "When the spirit soul comes in contact with the material energy, he immediately begins to perform sinful activities, such as stealing, killing, and illicit sex. He may even perform many other terrible deeds, such as killing a brahmin. Oh purest of personalities, please tell me how these unfortunate souls may escape the punishment of being sent to hellish regions of creation. Kindly inform me how, by giving even a little in charity, one may be easily released from the reactions of his sins."

Jan 09, 2010 – Vedic Thought

"It is very much regrettable that unfortunate people do not discuss the description of the Vaikuntha [spiritual] planets but engage in topics that are unworthy to hear and bewilder one’s intelligence. Those who give up the topics of Vaikuntha and take to talk of the material world are thrown into the darkest region of ignorance."

Lord Brahma – Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.15.23

This is the transcription of the wonderful class given by HG Vaijayanthi mala Mathaji about Hanumanji’s prayers S.B-5.19. When Hanumanji was crossing over the ocean he had to go through three different obstacles. In our devotional life also we go through different obstacles in various forms. We have to know how to get rid of these obstacles and move towards our final destination which is the love of Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is why Maharaj says "steer clear". When we are driving in the traffic, two things we have to keep in our mind. We should be very alert and we should know the destination where we are supposed to go.

The world becoming more and more competitive these days, we find  people are not willing to teach others or share the knowledge gained by them. But this is completely opposite in case of spiritual world. There devotees are always eager to tell what they know about the Lord to others and whenever they are questioned by others on topics concerning the Lord, they are surcharged with enthusiasm and they energetically speak about the Lord. In Srimad Bhagvatam Cano 2 Chapter 5 verse 9,  Lord Brahma thanks Narada Muni when he inquires to him about the glories of the Lord.

Once when I inquired our Guru Maharaj about some doubt regarding the execution of some work in which I had no previous experience, Maharaj told me take Bhagavatam and turn to the verse 3.9.29:

shri bhagavaan uvaaca
maa veda garbha gaas tandreem / sarga udhyamam aavaha
tan mayaapaaditam hy agre / yan maam praarthyate bhavaan

The Supreme Personality of Godhead then said: "O Brahmaa, O depth of Vedic wisdom, be neither depressed nor anxious about the execution of creation. What you are begging from Me has already been granted before."

Recently something came to my attention that in no other religious literature you can find so much information’s about the soul like in our Bhagavad-gita, and believe me I looked around a lot. Actually, all other religions have no clear concept of the soul; I remember my meeting with one very learned Christina priest at one nice monastery in my country and our talk about the soul. Basically, this priest had no clear conception of the soul and body; Somehow he mixed both of them in one entity, he was all the time stressing the importance of reappearance from the death (both Muslims and Christians believe that dead body will again reappear. This is why for them it is a sin to cremate the body). Finally I got fed up of listening to this nonsense, I stopped him and asked, “Prabhu what about the soul, please tell me are we this body or the soul???” He was completely puzzled; he was not expecting such direct question. He said “We are both”. Then I asked him, “What about the animals, do they have soul?” He said, “No, they don’t, they are objects created by the Lord for the service of humanity.” Believe me it was very hard to control myself from laughing but somehow I managed. I thought, “My God! What ignorance! The whole religion is based on misconceptions. (Srila Prabhupada, only you have saved me from such ignorance). At the end of our conversation, out of great respect for his tapasya (long life celibate, life of total isolation and dedication to the Lord) I wanted to tell to the priest just see how our Lord Krsna speaks about the soul, but I could understand that he was not ready for that yet in this janma.
