Today we are celebrating the most auspicious occasion of the appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. In one of the lectures, our beloved Guru Maharaj was referring to the following beautiful verse from Caitanya Caritamrta Adi lila 2.2:

krishnotkirtana-gaana-nartana-kalaa-paathojani-bhraajitaa
sad-bhaktaavali-hamsa-cakra-madhupa-shreni -vihaaraaspadam
karnaanandi-kala-dhvanir vahatu me jihvaa-maru-praangane
shri-caitanya dayaa-nidhe tava lasal-lila-sudhaa-svardhuni

"O my merciful Lord Caitanya, may the nectarean Ganges waters of Your transcendental activities flow on the surface of my desertlike tongue. Beautifying these waters are the lotus flowers of singing, dancing and loud chanting of Krishna’s holy name, which are the pleasure abodes of unalloyed devotees. These devotees are compared to swans, ducks and bees. The river’s flowing produces a melodious sound that gladdens their ears."

Maharaj was telling that this is a very nice verse describing the pastimes of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. It is karna anandiit is giving great pleasure to the ears. It is very blissful to hear and is melodious – svardhuni. The whole sound is very melodious and how is it?jihvaa maru praanganejihvaa means tongue and maru means dry. If our tongue is dry and we take the water and sip the water, it becomes very wet and gives a very nice feeling. The same way maru means desert. In the desert, during the day time it is extremely hot and if there is a drop of water on the soil how nice the soil feels? In the same way, our life is desert like. We are surrounded by so many miseries. But as soon as you come to Caitanya Mahaprabhu and take up to the chanting of Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare it feels like water on the desert. Our life is a desert full of miseries. Our own body is miserable. Other people trouble us. There are so many unnatural calamities and then again birth, death, old age and disease and all these are miseries. So it is all a desert of miseries. So you have to take to this chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. How you should take to this? sri caitanya dayaanidhe tava lasal lilaa – we have to take to the pastimes of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Srila Prabhupada has done labour for us. He has translated the whole thing word by word even from Bengali and Sanskrit and given us nice enlightening purports. Now we should come to this book and try to find out the importance of the pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. And then that sudhanectar will be on our tongue. If you can get that nectar, we will be definitely elevated spiritually and materially also we will be happy. This is the meaning of Caitanya caritamrta.

On this auspicious day let us pray to Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu by singing with devotion the following verse from Caitanya Caritamrita Madhya lila 10.116 :

heloddhunita-khedayaa vishadayaa pronmeelad-aamodayaa
shaamyac-caastra-vivaadayaa rasa-dayaa cittaarpitonmaadayaa
shashvad-bhakti-vinodayaa sa-madayaa maadhurya-maryaadayaa
sri-caitanya dayaa-nidhe tava dayaa bhuyaad amandodayaa

"O ocean of mercy, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu! Let there be an awakening of Your auspicious mercy, which easily drives away all kinds of material lamentation by making everything pure and blissful. Indeed, Your mercy awakens transcendental bliss and covers all material pleasures. By Your auspicious mercy, quarrels and disagreements arising among different scriptures are vanquished. Your auspicious mercy pours forth transcendental mellows and thus causes the heart to jubilate. Your mercy, which is full of joy, always stimulates devotional service and glorifies conjugal love of God. May transcendental bliss be awakened within my heart by Your causeless mercy."

Thank you very much.
Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev,
Vaijayanthimala devi dasi
Abudhabi.
