The Lord states in the Gita that He accepts a leaf, flower, fruit or water from His bhaktas if it is offered with devotion. These items are easily available and by offering these things one can get His blessings to enter into His Kingdom. And from the scriptures we hear that the Lord has great liking for Tulasi leaves and He is very much pleased if we offer tulasi leaves to Him.

Today we will share a beautiful offering of H H Janananda Goswami Maharaj unto our spiritual master H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on the occassion of his samadhi on 27th Jan 2010. H H Janananda Goswami Maharaj is a senior disciple of Srila Prabhupada. He had become a devotee in London and served there in the beginning years of his Krishna consciousness (early 70’s) wherein he had spent a lot of time with our Guru Maharaj. Janananda Maharaj is a very exalted devotee, traveling and preaching all over the world, the main driving force behind the World Holy Name initiative and various other wonderful projects in ISKCON. His kirtans, harinam, spontaneous skits, realizations, scholarliness in the shastras, witty nature, humility and many other transcendental qualities attracts even the most demoniac souls to the lotus feet of Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krishna.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das
H H Janananda Goswami wrote:
Dear Mahavishnu Maharaja,
Please accept my humble obeisances and ecstatic embraces. All glories to Srila Prabhupada who brought us together and has now separated us at least for a while. But not really. I cannot but remember many wonderful times together laughing and laughing. You were just like my favourite uncle. I love your sense of humour. Right from the first time I saw you, maybe back in 1974, I was naturally attracted to you. You used to roll up to Bhaktivedanta Manor in that little old car – what was it? After your work you would come. I remember you sitting in Prabhupada’s room quietly studying his books – practically unseen by the “busy” devotees who had “things to do”. At that time you hesitated to heed Prabhupada’s call to join him and preach.

It is one month since our Gurudev left our physical vision. Days and hours are difficult to pass by but we are remembering him more and more. It is only by remembering Gurudev’s glories again and again that we can purify our life and please him. I would humbly like to share the transcribed speech of H H Radhanath Swami Maharaj on 27th Jan 2010 when our Guru Maharaj H H Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj entered Samadhi.

During Nityananda Prabhu’s tour of all the holy places of India for the purpose of purifying them, by the will of providence, he happened to meet Madhavendra Puripada somewhere in western India. When Nityananda Prabhu saw Madhavendra Puri Goswami he fainted away in a swoon of ecstatic love and His transcendental body became completely still. Similarly, when Madhavendra Puri gazed upon Nityananda Prabhu, he completely forgot himself and fainted to the ground.

King MAndhAtA once said to Vasishtha Muni, "O great sage, kindly be merciful to me and tell me of a holy fast that will benefit me eternally."
Vasishtha Muni replied. "O king, kindly listen as I describe the best of all fast days, Amalakii EkAdasi. He who faithfully observes a fast on this EkAdasii obtains enormous wealth, gets free of the effects of all kinds of sins, and attains liberation. Fasting on this EkAdasii is more purifying than donating one thousand cows in charity to a pure brAhmana. So please hear me attentively as I tell you the story of a hunter who, though daily engaged in killing innocent animals for his living, achieved liberation by observing a fast on Amalakii EkAdasii and following the prescribed rules and regulations of worship.

We are all trying to be devotees of the Lord and what holds us back is the illusory energy of the Lord. The way to get out of the clutches of the illusory energy is to learn the art of being always connected with the Lord. Now the question us how to engage ourselves, because we have on the one hand our own material responsibilities. Maharaj explained the following practical ways to be followed so that our day to day life is completely spiritualized.

We came across a very nice past time of the Lord and wanted to share this with all of you. On one occasion, Narada went to Lord Narayana. In the course of their conversation, Narayana asked Narada, "You move around the three worlds, what news have you brought for Me from your wanderings? Have you seen anything great in My creation?" "What can be greater than You in the three worlds!" replied Narada. On hearing this, Narayana said, "I am asking you about My creation and not about Myself."

Normally we see that every one visits temple or performs Puja or offers something to the Lord with some kind of motive in the mind. When ever we are in front of the deity, there is always a begging bowl in our hand or heart. Some people openly try to bargain. “You give me wealth, I will return You so much” or “If I pass in exam, I will visit You or offer You some specific thing” or “If I get promotion, I will hold Puja or Satsang” or “I am reading Bhagavatam so that my forefathers will be freed from hell” and many more demands.

We saw in the mail "Detachment in Practice" that Parikshit maharaj exhibited the highest quality of renunciation of his kingdom, wealth and everything. In fact, few verses before he graciously accepts the curse of the brahmana as the mercy of the Lord and accepts it without any retaliation. Our nature is that any reverse to our sense gratification we tend to rebel against it and the whole life is wasted on the rebellious plot. This needs to be avoided. As Maharaj says, "A devotee welcomes any situation as long as he is in this material world because his attention is fixed on the lotus feet of the Lord." Since our attention is not fixed we tend to waver and glide down from devotional service and we don’t even realize it. Whereas Parikshit Maharaj was able to accept the curse because his attention is fixed and his objectives are very clear. How was his attention fixed and objectives were clear will be seen from the same verse we discussed yesterday.

While going through the pages of Srimad Bhagavatam I came across a wonderful verse which portrays the qualities of Maharaj, especially renunciation. Maharaj is very careful in his personal belongings especially his diaries, his one volume Bhagavatam and his clothes and he always insists that they are kept in a proper place and he will show his Narasimha form if it is lost. I remember vividly one time his one small dairy was by mistake kept alongwith his clothes and not kept together with other diaries and he was very furious and chastised us for our carelessness. We were all very tensed and Maharaj was also looking at us with so much disdain. I was wondering this is the same Maharaj few minutes before talking about detachment and now so much attached. I remember Maharaj always says, "Detachment does not mean carelessness but it means being more careful about our duties." Therefore he was so meticulous that all his personal things are kept in proper place so that he can peacefully concentrate on Srimad Bhagavatam.

I received this inspirational story recently and would like to explain a little bit with some of the relevant instructions from Srimad Bhagavatam.
When Yudhishtira Maharaj was ruling this planet, Bhima used to help in solving problems of people, hence people whoever has any questions / problems would come to Bhima and ask him for help. One day, one citizen came and told Bhima that he noticed a strange thing that day that his fence is moving into other’s place and he is wondering why it happened like that. Bhima can help if a demon is troubling but not these kind of puzzles so he asked him to approach Yudhishtira Maharaj.
