Recent Granthraj mail by HG Anuradha mataji regarding Vishram was very nice. We can also become relaxed if we add Ram in our life. Everybody knows the past times of Lord Rama; all monkeys together built a Ram setu over the sea and as they wrote Ram on the stones, the stones changed their nature and began floating on water. From this incident we have to take lesson that the monkeys understood the potency of Lord Rama’s name, but we being humans have failed in fact willingly we are not interested to add Ram in our life and change our nature. He is the Creator of the whole universe and he can easily cross the ocean without the need of any bridge! But Lord Rama gave us an opportunity to add Him in our life in the form of Hari Nam. We never tried to learn this lesson from His past time.
Our progress in Krishna consciousness is slow, just because we don’t have unflinching faith on Lord Krishna and are not ready to accept His Supremacy. Before coming to Krishna consciousness, we might have followed different paths, just like our ancestors, and there is a possibility that no one taught us anything about the Bhagavat Gita. But now we are in touch with words of Lord by the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva. So there can be no lame excuses for not having opportunity to understand the Lord’s words and glories.
Sometimes it is amazing to note that even though we are born in the holy land of India, we are transforming ourselves slowly whereas foreigners and those who have come directly without any previous carry overs, have followed Srila Prabhupada readily and more seriously. In this context there is a story. A person once went to learn mrdanga to a master. He asked the master how much he would charge for the classes. The master in turn asked him if he knew anything about mrdanga. The man replied "No". The master then told him he would charge Rs.100 per month. Some days later another man went to the same master and asked him how much he would charge for his mrudanga classes. The master asked him the same question and the second man replied, "yes a little bit". The master then told him, "I will charge you Rs 200 per month". The second person then argued how he could charge him more than the other person when in fact he knew something while the other knew nothing about mrdanga. Then the master said, "100 for erasing your old data and 100 for teaching new!"
How many common men have written their autobiographies, and how enthusiastically we have read and accepted them?! But when the Personality of Godhead Himself tells about Himself, we cannot take it as it is. This is nothing but our misfortune. On the other hand, we try to drag concocted meanings out of the simple passages of Bhagavad-gita to establish some man-made ideas which is never supported by Lord Krishna. By such artificial dragging, one cannot ultimately establish his rubbish theory, but at the end, one confirms the whole thesis by putting a donkey in place of God. In Bhagavad-gita it is definitively established by Lord Sri Krishna that:
1. He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead and everything is under His complete control.
2. Our only duty is to render transcendental loving service unto Him.
Thus, once we really understand these two facts from the pages of Bhagavad-gita, then we can enter into the primary classes of spiritual education.
In Bhagavad Gita 4.7 Lord Krishna says,
yadaa yadaa hi dharmasya / glaanir bhavati bhaarata
abhyutthaanam adharmasya / tadaatmaanam srjaamy aham
"Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion– at that time I descend Myself."
Srila Prabhupada explains in his purport that Lord appears by His own will whenever there is a predominance of irreligiosity and a disappearance of true religion. The principles of dharma, or religion, are the direct orders of the Supreme Personality of Godhead (dharmam tu sakshaad bhagavat-praneetam). These principles are clearly indicated throughout the Bhagavad-gita. The purpose of the Vedas is to establish such principles under the order of the Supreme Lord, and the Lord directly orders, at the end of the Gita, that the highest principle of religion is to surrender unto Him only, and nothing more.
Let us therefore sincerely pray to the Supreme Lord, Srila Prabhupada and our spiritual master to bestow Their mercy upon us so that we can practice and follow the path as per Bhagavad Gita and develop unflinching faith in the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Gurudev,
Tushta Krishna Das and Suniti devi dasi
