Don’t Miss this Bumper Prize

Krishnaaa In the discussion between Lord Kapila and Mother Devahuti, so many transcendental subject matter in relation to devotional service is explained by Lord Kapila in detail. The chapter titled "Glories of Devotional Service" is very powerful and important for all of us to meditate upon because there are so many practical points discussed about how to advance our devotional service.

Lord Kapila after explaining all the matter in relation to devotional service concludes the chapter in the last verse thus:

etaavaan eva lokesmin / pumsaam nishreyasodayah
tivrena bhakti-yogena / mano mayi arpitam sthiram

"Therefore persons whose minds are fixed on the Lord engage in the intensive practice of devotional service. That is the only means for attainment of the final perfection of life."

The conclusion is very clear. If we want to attain perfection in our life, two things we have to do are

  1. Our minds should be fixed on the lord (mano mayi arpitam sthiram) and
  2. The practice of our devotional service must be intense (tivrena bhakti yogena).

These two are very simple provided we have the inclination towards bhakti. To get to the point of developing these two factors that are congenial in developing our devotional service, we have to remember this very practical and simple verse that Lord Kapila speaks to His mother in the later chapter (SB 3.29.18)

aadhyaatmikaanushravanaan / naama sankirtanaachame
aarjavena aaryasangena / nirahankriyayaa tathaa

"A devotee should always try to hear about spiritual matters and should always utilize his time in chanting the holy name of the Lord. His behavior should always be straightforward and simple, and although he is not envious but friendly to everyone, he should avoid the company of persons who are not spiritually advanced."

  1. We should always try to hear about spiritual matters
  2. We should always utilize our time in chanting the holy names
  3. Our behavior should always be straightforward and simple
  4. We should not be envious but friendly to everyone
  5. We should avoid the company of persons who are not spiritually advanced.

If  we remember the above simple items and practice in our day-day life, we will sure come out successful.

Kapila Muni is so merciful that He has given such simple ways for us to practice devotional service and perfect our lives even though we are the most fallen living entities of this most degraded age of kali. Actually this is like a bumper prize for us, which 100% we don’t deserve at all. Just like we are so careful to utilize the best available opportunity to earn and save wealth in our life when the market is good, we should also take full advantage of this simple process. Who knows…, if we miss this opportunity, definitely our determination to follow devotional service is going to become weaker day by day (along with our body getting weaker day by day)  and if we have to wait for another life, for which we are not yet guaranteed to get a human birth, definitely we are on the losing side.

Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Kalacakra Krsna das
