The normal human tendency (with a few exceptions) is that we become anxious or overjoyed to continue a work that has come out successfully or be depressed if we are unable to do that work. These feelings arises because we think we are doing everything. And fortunately, if we had put in very hard labor for that work and it results in success, then we fix the credit to our endeavors unanimously. This tendency creeps in our mind, irrespective of whether the work is devotional service or a mundane activity.

In the Sixth canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, we find that King Citraketu offers fascinating prayers to the Supreme Personality Of Godhead and the Lord being very much pleased with the king replies in SB 6.16.51 the following very powerful verse :
aham vai sarva-bhutaani / bhutaatma bhuta bhaavanah
shabda-brahma param brahma / mamobhe shaashvati tanu

Kardama Muni and Devahuti are the emblem of ideal couple. As we saw in yesterday’s offering, they were truly submissive to the will of the Lord and their superiors right through their life. Apart from that they were also humble and honest in their devotional service, never proud of all the blessings they got from the Supreme Lord and Brahma.

In the 3rd Canto of Srimad Bhagavatam the longest episode is the story of Kardama Muni-Devahuti and Devahuti-Kapila Samvada on transcendental subject matter. Out of the 33 chapters in 3rd Canto, about 13 chapters (from Chapters 21-33) are dedicated to this entire pastime. The entire episode is very pleasing, enlivening and full of important teachings. One common thread that flows through the entire episode is very important for everyone of us to appreciate and follow in our lives, and that is Submissiveness and Obedience.

Once upon a time a dog lost his way in a forest. He saw a tiger coming towards him. He was breathless with fear and was thinking that today I am gone, I am sure to be dead. Then he thought for a while, and suddenly he saw some dry bones lying down on the way. Immediately he turned backside and started licking the bones and telling louder, "WOW! This tiger is simply delicious, if I get one more it will be a big treat with full supper!" and he belched loudly. This time the tiger came under the dog’s trap. The tiger thought for a moment,"Oh! This dog hunts tigers!!! Better to escape and save my life!" and the tiger disappeared from there.

In Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.8.19, while praying to Lord Krishna, Srimati Kunti Maharani says

The Transcendental Power of the Holy Name

Lord Krsna say’s in the Bhagavad-gita that a devotee who fully surrenders unto Him is no longer liable to suffer the reactions of his previous karma. However, because in his mind a devotee may still maintain the remnants of his previous sinful mentality, the Lord removes the last vestiges of the enjoying spirit by giving His devotee punishments that may sometimes resemble sinful reactions. S.B.10.14.8 states,
tat te ’nukampaam su-samikshamaano / bhunjaana evaatma-krtam vipaakam
hrd-vaag-vapurbhir vidadhan namas te / jiveta yo mukti-pade sa daaya-bhaak

I was recently listening to the powerful lecture by our beloved Guru Maharaj on Srimad Bhagavatam verse 1.6.25 emphasising the value and importance of the transcendental sound vibration. Our mind is always flickering and chanting the Holy names of the Lord becomes a great struggle for us because our conception is that we are chanting and Krishna is elsewhere. But Maharaj with his authoritative explanation completely convinces our mind about the necessity of chanting by making it clear that Krishna is His name. I am sharing herewith the extracts from Maharaj’s speech for all our benefit.

The method of attaining the highest devotion unto the lotus feet of Supreme Personality of Godhead is wonderfully explained in the following verse from Brahma Samhita 5.59:
pramaanais tat sad aacaarais / tad-abhyaasair nirantaram
bodhayan aatmanaatmaanam / bhaktim apy uttamaam labhet
